Sure, there are some narrow-minded ideologues and political charlatans who preach about the “Global Warming Hoax.”
Facts just don’t get in their way. They never have and they never will for these sort of folks.
In another century, Galileo, the father of modern science, was tried and condemned by the Inquisition for his terrible heresy the earth was not at the centre of the universe.
Turns out, it was actually the Church that was delusional, not the scientist.
Today, it’s small-minded ideologues who assert, in the face of decades of overwhelming evidence, that there is a global warming controversy when, indeed, there is no such thing.
However, rather than argue with the delusional, I wonder: “Will global warming bring on another Ice Age?”
At first, it sounds paradoxical until you consider 2 things: Greenland and the Gulf Stream.
It is the Atlantic Gulf Stream that gives states from Britain to Scandinavia similar temperatures and climate to the continental U.S, instead of northern Siberia and Alaska which are at the same latitude.
Sea currents carry warm tropical sea water from the Equator up to the North Atlantic to a bit south of Greenland. As the warmer water dissipates in the frigid conditions, its salt remains behind and the resulting dense water settles to the bottom forming an undersea river 40 times bigger than all the other rivers of the planet combined .
At Greenland, this gigantic, highly saline river in the Atlantic Ocean , which can even be seen by astronauts, reverses course and flows south. As it does so , it pushes warmer, lighter water to the surface, bringing about the moderate temperatures off Europe’s coast.
Which brings me back to Greenland.
Today, its ice sheets, nearly two miles deep, are melting so quickly that some coastal areas of this subcontinent have been rising an inch a year over the past two decades as the immense weight of the ice is lost. As its ice sheets melt, the run off goes into the North Atlantic, increasingly diluting the ocean’s salinity and, at some unknown but critical threshold, the Great Conveyor Belt, the Gulf Stream, will shut down, resulting in a catastrophic (think two or three years) climate shift to another Ice Age which could last, at a minimum, 700 years—but perhaps many thousands of years.
The Ice Age will put the eastern half of North America and all of Europe and Siberia into permanent winter, making those regions uninhabitable. Two billion humans and our civilization will probably perish.
But , it’s best not to dwell on things we don’t want to think about.
Better to simply do nothing and repeat, over and over , that global warming is a hoax.
Just like the Church’s decision to deny that the earth was not the centre of the universe, just a lie by the blasphemer Galileo.
Just another hoax.
Too bad the planet has to be put at such needless peril solely to mollify fools and political circus barkers.
It could be the most significant event in mankind’s history regardless of if there’s a faux global warming controversy. It’s the Big Lie they commit and have the gall to call the”global warming hoax“.
