There is a massive wave of public opinion going against the use of chemicals whenever possible. People are instead re-evaluating their grandmother’s old home remedies but they are not being given much support from what I can see.

I suppose that this is not unusual, given the vast amount of money we spend every year on chemicals and the personal interests of the industry itself. A lot of the money we spend on chemicals is for cleaning and the killing of bugs.

The majority of us use our insecticides in the house, but gardeners use even more of the substance outside killing the bugs that eat their flowers and their fruit. Would it not be wonderful if we could rediscover the way these things were done before the invention of chemical insecticides, some of which, like DEET, have admittedly been around for quite a long time – more than 60 years in the case of DEET.

The first thing a first-rate gardener should endeavour to do is look after the environment while tending his or her garden. After all, if the environment is right for your flowers, then they will have a better chance of flourishing.

One of the best methods of doing this is by getting rid of the pests that eat or destroy your plants and the best way of doing this is by helping the predators that eat the bad bugs. Easier said than done, you might say.

However, if you generate the right environment, they will come. Two of the most widespread yet also two of the most voracious predators are ladybirds and earwigs. if you can get those to stay in your garden then most of your insect problems will solve themselves. You can encourage ladybirds by growing herbs such as fennel and dill, which they seem to like.

In order to encourage earwigs, grow dahlias. If you plant a dozen dahlias around your garden you will attract hundreds of earwigs, but sprinkle sharp sand around their base, because slugs and snails like them too.

Earwigs like to crawl under things, so leave a few potted plants about as well, but raise them off the ground a bit by standing the pots on a handful of gravel. This will give the earwigs somewhere to live and will assist with the drainage of the pot.

Depending on where you have your home, of course, the praying mantis is a first-class friend to have in the garden. These insects look scary and they really are scary to other insects. They will eat any insect they can get hold of, but they are perfectly safe for humans.

Lizards and frogs and toads are good allies to have as well. They too need somewhere to crawl under and flower pots or large stones are perfect. Put a few stones the size of footballs under your shrubbery or make a rockery for them to live in. However, cats will kill them, so it is a good idea to discourage cats from your garden.

The chemical pollution in our environment these days originates from industrial wastes in the forms of gases, fumes, dust and particles that are now in the air, the oceans, rivers, soil, virtually everywhere. They are emitted from motor vehicles, airplanes, factory chimneys and almost every part of just about every industry on earth. It’s reducing the quality of our day-to-day lives almost all the time. The air quality is definitely deteriorating and a growing number of health problems are showing up which often are usually either due to, or at the very least, seriously made worse as a result of chemical type pollution including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and so on.

Give consideration to the chemical products that are in use and produced, as well as disposed of, at your place of work. It can be somewhat distressing to contemplate. Very few employers understand exactly how to responsibly dispose of chemical wastes or the terrible health risks frequently linked with these types of materials. They really want telling and alerting to all these problems because they have a tendency to just dump these products directly into the sea, estuaries and rivers, lakes, land fill places, at the side of the road or into the drainage systems. Commonly the areas at which companies deposit all their chemical wastes are adjacent to family homes, communities, play areas and schools. The chemical waste products are commonly in liquid form and therefore they commonly drain down into reservoirs and come back to cause problems for all of us in our food along with drinking water.

Toxic waste is amongst the worst problems the world population has to manage nowadays, people are seeing more and more reminders of the significantly harmful impact this has on wildlife in addition to the natural world, of which people are a part as well as on which in turn we all ultimately depend on for our own continuing survival.

Businesses must understand how they can get rid of all their toxic wastes in more acceptable and long term ways; as an example, in allocated disposal locations which will be supervised and additionally effectively managed.

The oceans of the world have been made use of as overflow for poisonous waste products for a long time and steadily folks are growing to be conscious of the risks that accompany this practice. The unsafe chemical compounds end up in our foods for example , the fish we will eat also, the waste products get washed back onto sea shores or just remain in the oceans threatening the continued existence of aquatic life in the main.

We have to take into consideration just how chemical substances can easily have an impact on our overall health within our households, as well… If you work with chemical products or come into contact with potentially harmful residues in your job (e.g agricultural spraying, motorway maintenance, steel production) it is important that you take precautions for the safety of your family members. You can easily lower the potential risk of this through keeping your work clothes at work, under no circumstances wash these items together with your family’s garments.

Even if the concentrations of harmful toxins may appear minor, the persistence of direct exposure to them can lead to a major hazard to health, for that reason it is important to launder all these items of clothing on their own, away from your home if possible. You need to know that even tiny levels of chemical substance remains can lead to severe health problems when the exposure is recurring over a long time.

I am Al Sowerby, and I’ve encountered many accidents owing to lack of concentration when managing chemicals. So, if you need to use Hydrogen Peroxide or Caustic Soda , ensure you are familiar with the danger and observe the health and safety regulations.

Are there bedbugs in your house? If there are, you may want to hire an exterminator to kill them for you. But if you prefer to do it on your own, be ready to repeat a lot of actions to make sure you get rid of all the bugs and their eggs.

Locate every infested area of your house. If they are all in your bedroom, for example, look under every piece of furniture, check under the sheets, and scan your whole carpet.

Yes, everything must be checked! Even the most diminutive and unassuming little crack in the wall could contain a cluster of bedbugs.

Second, you must clean every infested area by scrubbing and vacuuming it. When scrubbing a surface, a stiff toothbrush can be used to easily dislodge eggs. After scrubbing, you vacuum the surface well. Then get rid of the vacuum bag as quick as possible.

As for all of your clothes that have been infected, wash them in very hot water. This will kill the bedbugs and make them safe again. Anything else that cannot be washed should be sprayed with a pesticide designed for killing bedbugs.

But remember this: pesticides are poisonous not only to bedbugs but to you as well. Be careful not to breathe in or ingest anything. You could get really sick.

Finally, seal your mattress inside of a plastic cover. Mattress covers help trap bedbugs and ensure that the bugs cannot spread; it’s kind of like a quarantine.

It seals any remaining bedbugs inside the cover, where they will starve to death over the next six to 12 months. After an infestation, always be mindful of bedbug presence in your home; this is the best way to avoid another outbreak and squash any problems that may arise.

Our surrounding has been polluted and therefore we require water testing labs. There are a lot of exposure to disease causing materials in place where we live hence the water environments have been damaged. Diseases caused by this material have therefore emerged. They include typhoid, cholera and amoeba just to list some. This pollution is mainly caused by our daily undertakings.

The question which arises for what reason do we carry out this taste? An explanation to this is this commodity has been bombarded by environmental constraint and constant weather changes. The main pollutants come from within us and we are to be blamed for this. Because of population pressure dirt still gets in this material however far it may be from it. Microorganisms are everywhere in our perimeter and this material is also not spared. If the level of pollution is high various ailment will also crop up.

The next question one should ask is what we test for in this commodity. The list of pollution causing agents are too long that it can never be practical to test all of them. The most common test carried out are the level of acidity, the amount of fluoride, how much organic compound is present and the total solids dissolved.

The main benefit of doing this in our labs is due to the fact that we can not see germs in there. However they might be since most of them are microscopic since some pollution involve chemicals reaction and is equally life threatening to us.

The tests will assure of the safety what will be taking to quench our thirst, health of fish in the ponds and that of animals too. Healthy animal is a key to the economic growth of the country and the economy at large.

The discussion carried out above just shows how helpful the labs are us. The well-being of each one of us is based on the technicians.

Looking to find the single source of helpful information on water testing labs?

Over the years since the Second World War, we have come to rely on chemicals rather than natural products. Chemicals were more powerful and more easily obtainable. This is nowhere more true than in the realm of insect repellents. DEET was developed just after the war and developed for use by the United States army for jungle warfare. DDT was used widely on crops around about the same time.

In the post World War climate, chemicals appeared to be more effective and cheaper. What more could anyone want? But regulation was not so strict then and governments and manufacturers got away with a lot. DDT was later banned, although it has made a come-back of sorts. DEET is still the most often used insect repellent, although there are anxieties now about the regular use of it.

This is why there is a movement back towards the old fashioned techniques of controlling insects and in particular, mosquitoes. Governments have let us down in the past and they will carry on to do so, until we can elect people who care about us and the natural world more than they do about themselves and their wallets. Maybe it was always a fabrication that politicians went into ‘public service’, but one thing is for sure, we do not get much service for our money any more.

So, if you do not have faith in chemicals, what do you do? The way I see it, you have to go back to granny’s methods. Those that have been used forever. Let us take a look at some of the natural ways to discourage insects, with particular regard to mosquitoes.

Eucalyptus oil is an old-style mosquito deterrent . You can either use eucalyptus oil from a bottle, make your own, or rub the fresh leaves on to your bare skin. As with all natural remedies, you will have to repeat the process often. DEET will remain effective for about four or five hours, but natural repellents will only be effective for about one hour.

Chrysanthemum seed husks are well-known to include a smell or chemical that mosquitoes cannot abide. This repellent may be difficult to track down, but it is about. It is called pyrethrin and is made from the plant of the same name, Chrysanthemum cinerariaefolium, by its Latin name. As a point of interest, permethrin, one of the most widespread insect repellents is a man-made derivative of pyrethin.

Mosquitoes detest anything that smells like lemons to them. I have phrased it in that way because some products, like shampoos, might smell like lemons to us, but perhaps they do not smell like lemons to mosquitoes. Anyway, some of the organic products that smell like lemons to both us and mosquitoes are: lemon grass, citronella and, surprise surprise, lemons, but there could be others.

You can utilize any of these three plants to good effect against mosquitoes. Citronella or lemon oil are likely to be the easiest to get hold of. In any case, you could try some shampoos or soaps ‘containing lemon juice’ until you find out which ones really work. The fact is that it does not matter what it says on the label, mosquitoes will let you know by their absence.

Mosquito is a familiar insect which belongs to the family Culicidae. The word mosquito is of Spanish and Portuguese origin which translates as ?little fly?. A mosquito passes through four phases in its life cycle i.e. egg, larva, pupa and adult. The fully developed mosquito is also called an imago. Eggs are laid by adult females in still water like puddles, lakes, ponds, or containers etc.

The life of an grown-up mosquito is four-eight weeks long. The mouthparts of mosquitoes are adapted to pierce the skin of animals and plants. Males feed on nectar and the juices of plants whilst the females need to feed on blood to obtain nutrients in order to lay eggs. More than 3,500 species of mosquitoes are to be found in the world.

The females of some species feed on humans and are the cause of numerous infectious illnesses. Egg development and blood digestion are two vital events in the life of female mosquitoes. They serve as a vector to transfer viruses and parasites from one person to another.

Mosquito control is necessary for getting rid of harmful mosquitoes and the illnesses spread by them. It is estimated that mosquitoes spread illnesses to over 700 million individuals in Asia, Africa, Mexico, Central America and South America. Many deaths are the result of contagious illnesses caused by the bites of mosquitoes.

When mosquito control was less common, thousands of deaths were caused each year. Malaria and yellow fever were known to be the result of by mosquito bites. WestNile fever is also borne by mosquitoes. Dengue virus and Encephalitis are other contagious illnesses caused by mosquitoes.

Natural enemies of mosquitoes include the dragonfly which assists control the population of mosquitoes by eating them. The reaction to the bites of mosquitoes can be instantaneous or delayed. The irritation on the bites is the result of an immunity response.

A number of anti-itch medications are available on the market. Some medications are taken orally while others are for external use only. Itching can be minimized by applying an adhesive tape to the region of the bite or by sucking on the region through a straw.

A very effectual anti-inflammatory agent is Tea tree oil, which reduces itching. Insecticides can also be used to kill the larvae of the mosquito. Source reduction is a very effective way to control mosquitoes by removing stagnant water. Biocontrol is another remedy by which natural enemies of mosquitoes are used to control their population.

Chemical pesticides will kill adult mosquitoes because they are the most harmful from the point of view of spreading disease. DDT was used for the reduction of mosquitoes on a big scale but now it?s use is prohibited in some countries. Different sorts of repellents are used to discourage mosquitoes from attacking. DEET is used as an effectual repellent.

Picaridin and IR3535 are also very widely used CDC-recommended repellents. Oil of Eucalyptus is a natural repellent and it is highly recommended. It is vital to take safety precautions to protect yourself from the contagious illnesses carried by mosquitoes.

Most individuals under seventy years of age in the West will not have seen bed bugs. This is mainly due to enhanced living conditions, DDT and better public education. The DDT was used in the thirties and forties and eradicated the problem in the more wealthy countries.

Bed bugs are a part of the arachnid or spider family, although bed bugs are parasites that suck blood, not all bodily fluids. They will dine on most warm-blooded animals and there is some evidence that humans are not their first choice of victim.

The most common variety of bed bugs are known as Cimex lectularius by their Latin name. They are quite small but very fast moving bugs and they are members of the spider family, although many of them do not resemble spiders at all. Instead, most of them look like little beetles, until they have gorged themselves, after which they can hardly move and are at their most vulnerable.

Bed bugs feed in a similar way to mosquitoes. They insert a tube into the skin of its victim and suck blood out. It is not much to you, about a quarter of a millilitre, but is a lot to them. It permits them to live and reproduce.

Bed bugs, unlike their relatives the ticks, are not known to convey any diseases. In fact, they are one of the few insects that do not pass on a disease.

A bedbug bite is comparable to an ant bite in appearance, but it will itch like a mosquito bite. You will probably experience a slight swelling with a red dot in the centre and an itch. Not much more.

You can check for bed bugs quite easily by soaking a bar of soap in a little water for half an hour while you lie on your bed reading a book. Then get up and fetch the soap, wet-side down and throw back the bed clothes. Pat up the bed bugs, if there are any with the soft soap. This is a speedy method of getting rid of a small number of bed bugs, but cannot be seen as a solution.

With regards to the annihilation of an infestation of bed bugs, it depends where you live. If you are in a hotel, the bar of soap will be proof enough of a problem and it is the hotel manager’s duty to provide a solution. If they do nothing, report the hotel to the neighbourhood tourist bureau.

If you live in rented accommodation, it is your landlord’s responsibility to solve the predicament. If he or she is disinclined, then go to the council hall and seek advice.

If the issue is in your own house, then take the skirting boards and architraves off. Spray or paint very powerful insecticide onto the wall and refit the woodwork. If you are still worried, seal the woodwork off on all sides with mastic or silicone.

These actions will ensure that your house will be free of bed bugs.
